Program Overview

The Howard University Department of Health Management offers the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences degree, which prepares students to perform executive management tasks with the goal of achieving a lifelong career in a wide variety of organizations that deliver health care services. Graduates of the Health Management Program are equally prepared to pursue advanced study in a myriad of disciplines and concentrations within and beyond the scope of health management. The Program was established in 1997 by the Howard University Board of Trustees to continue in their commitment to produce leaders for America and the global community.

In 2011, the program was granted departmental status, and subsequently, named the Department of Health Management. As one of seven specialized departments within the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences, the Department of Health Management plays a critical role at Howard University as the only program dedicated specifically to developing future healthcare administrators. Located in the Nation’s Capital, Washington, DC, the Department provides numerous opportunities for didactic, experiential, and service learning to manifest in government, public, and private sector settings.
