Dr. Patricia Y. Talbert, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Administration
We are proud of our undergraduate and graduate nursing programs and our nine dynamic, separately accredited health care professions housed within the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences. In 1969, the Division of Nursing was established with a program of studies leading to the bachelor’s degree in nursing. In 1980, the Master of Science Degree in Nursing was initiated, and recently, a post-master's program was added to include a Certificate Family Nurse Practitioner (CFNP). The Division of Allied Health Sciences was established by the Howard University Board of Trustees on July 1, 1974, thus granting the approval to create multiple major Health Science programs to include Clinical Laboratory Science, Health Sciences and Management, Nutritional Sciences, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, and Radiation Therapy; and our graduate degree programs offered include Nutritional Science, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy.
The College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences offers rigorous, highly competitive, culturally, community-oriented, research-based programs. Our graduates are prepared to work with both traditional and underserved populations in local, national, and international communities. Prospective students will adopt professional qualities that will help prepare them to serve individuals in need and work to ameliorate those conditions responsible for ill health and disease. Prospective students will also cultivate new knowledge and skills that will equip them to deal with real-world professional situations.
It is an exciting time to explore a degree in nursing and allied health sciences and enter into a professional field that is enriching, rewarding, and self-fulfilling. We look forward to your application to be a part of the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences family. We are delighted that you are interested in learning from our astute faculty and staff who will share their expertise and offer you an exemplary education. We are committed to offering our students the best pedagogical experience.
