Dean

Christopher Lance Coleman, PhD, MPH, MS, FAAN, FADLN serves as Dean of the Howard University College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences. Dr. Coleman is a nationally recognized nurse scholar, educator, researcher, and academic leader whose career has been defined by excellence in teaching, research, leadership, and service.

Prior to joining Howard University, Dr. Coleman served as Dean and Professor of Nursing at Oakland University. His distinguished academic career also includes leadership and faculty appointments at Purdue University, Indiana University, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

Dr. Coleman is widely recognized for his contributions to nursing science, health promotion, HIV prevention and treatment, behavioral health, and advancing health equity. His research and scholarship have informed practice, improved health outcomes, and strengthened efforts to address healthcare disparities in underserved communities.

As Dean, Dr. Coleman is committed to advancing academic excellence, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, expanding research innovation, and preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals to lead with integrity, compassion, and purpose. Under his leadership, the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences continues to build upon Howard University's enduring legacy of excellence in education, scholarship, clinical practice, and service.
